Quang Binh province is a big tourist attraction with several well-known destinations to visit, including Son Doong Cave, Ke Bang National Park and Phong Nha. It is located approx 490 km south of Hanoi. Quang Binh is a great place to visit for the adventurous traveller who is interested in its diverse terrain consisting of islands, forests, mountains and lowlands, as well as rivers and seas.

One of the most compelling reasons to visit Quang Binh province on the Vietnam family tour is the cave systems that perfectly merge with the local landscape.

caves of phong nha ke bang

Phong Nha Cave
Phong Nha cave is appreciated for its magical beauty that makes it a complete wonder of nature. It is one of the most distinguished cultural heritage sites of the world and favoured for a variety of reasons. It has the longest water grottos and most spectacular stalagmites and stalactites. It has a beautiful reef and sandbank. It has the widest and highest entrance. And it has the longest underground river.

A great way to discover the beauty of Phong Nha Cave is to hire a boat for a tip from Chay River. The ceiling is relatively low and gives way to various formations and caverns rich in stalactites.

The cave system has artificial lighting installed in place to make it easier to see the wide-ranging features. Plus, at the end of the boat trip it is possible to disembark and walk a specific trail through the cave system.

Son Doong Cave
The Son Doong Cave is one of the latest cave systems to be discovered in Quang Binh province after other established ones like Phong Nha and Thien Duong caves. Son Doong Cave is seen as a major cave system and is nearly 7 km in length. It is located in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park and relatively close to the Vietnam-Laos border.

The entry pass for this cave system isn't the most accessible and can take a 10 km trek to reach the of Son Doong cave. It not only has beautiful stalagmites and stalactites, but also several different grottoes. This cave has a big lake and is very deep.

For the travellers on the Vietnam travel packages that want to discover the full beauty of Son Doong, there is generally a need to organize a tour at least 12 months in advance. Also, ensure you have the fitness and skills to fully enjoy this adventure.

Paradise Cave
Located in the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, the Paradise Cave (also referred to as Thien Duong cave) was only discovered in 2005 and labelled as one of the most magnificent and beautiful caves in the world. The cave is easily accessed by trekking through an old forest with the entranced shaded by trees that are hundreds of years old.

On entering the Paradise Cave it is possible to witness the stalactite pillars with most several metres in diameter. Plus, there are the grandiose rock arches to admire while walking in this fantastic gift of nature. The cave is approx 31 km in length, 30 to 150 metres in width, and nearly 60 to 80 metres in height.
