Perfectly situated in South east Asia Vietnam has a lot to offer the intrepid traveler or tourist looking to experience some of the best the world has to offer. The capital city is a great place to start your tour.
Welcome to the beautiful capital city of Vietnam - Hanoi.
Depending on the type of weather you prefer to explore a new destination will dictate greatly what time of year is best for you to visit Hanoi. Although you maybe tempted to only pack shorts and t-shirts, you maybe surprised to find out Hanoi can actually be fairly cold and chilly at certain times of year.
Hanoi has four seasons; chilly winters and crazy hot summers are combined with spring and autumn type weather similar to the western world.
If you prefer cooler weather the best time of year to visit is December - February where temperatures can drop to a chilly 10 degrees in the morning and slowly climb to a lovely and pleasant 20 degrees in the mid afternoon. It does mean layers are needed as the mornings will be chilly, although we think it is a perfect excuse to find a local coffee shop to warm up in.
In the cold season the humidity is much easier to handle and makes exploring and walking around the city much nicer. Rainfall is usually limited and the skies are often clear and bright blue.
Many tourists prefer to visit in April and May when the weather is getting warmer, you will find temperatures of 20 degrees most days. The humidity will start to rise and there can be more grey days where drizzle is more prevalent. Although what a great time to stay dry and visit the many museums throughout the city.
If you are fair-weather traveler or just generally like the heat, June, July and August are the hottest months. Temperatures can reach 30 degrees and have been known to reach 40 degrees in the height of summer. However, the high humidity can be stifling and if you suffer with breathing issues this time of year is probably not the best time to visit Hanoi.
The heat can make exploring the city uncomfortable but with so many gardens and temples to find shade and relax, you will have many opportunities to escape the sun.
The summer months also mean the start of the rainy season. Heavy and persistent downpours can arrive without a moments notice, although the downpours are usually over quickly and clear warm skies are back within no time.
Be aware walking around the city after a downpour can be a challenge as many of the small and narrow streets are prone to flooding.
The seasons in Hanoi do mean you can choose the best time of year to visit for you. From sun worshippers to colder weather dwellers everyone will find their best time of year to visit. We prefer April & May when the weather is just starting to warm up and the rainfall is limited. Hanoi is waiting to be explored, so what are you waiting for?
