Vietnam Protestantism

In 1911, Robert A. Jaffray, a Canadian missionary first introduced this religion at Da Nang. Then, over 100 missionaries as members of the Christian and Missionary Alliance were sent to Vietnam to promote the faith's growth in the country.

Up to now, two Protestant organizations including the Evangelical Church of Vietnam North (since 1963) and the Southern Evangelical Church of Vietnam (since 2001) have been officially recognized by the government. Nowadays, there are an estimated number of 1.3 million followers, two-thirds of whom are Kinh (Vietnamese) living mainly in the southern part of the country, and among the minority groups - particularly the H' mong.
