Moon Mother Inviting Festival of theTay ethnic group is celebrated at the beginning of spring in every village. AllTay people gather to pray the Moon Mother for good things, fine harvests, and healthy cattle. It lasts from ten to fifteen days. The festival begins with the flower offering festival and “luon hai” (singing) to see a group of spirits to the Moon Palace for inviting the Mother Moon to the earth. The festival finishes with a ceremony, which takes place in the field seeing off the Moon Mother to come back to her palace. By the end of the festival, people have meal together. The animated atmosphere of the festivities is a mixture between reality and fantasy. During that time, there are numerous games such as cock fighting, top spinning, and Yen playing.
