Hue festival 2002, the first time in nearly 60 years of absence, Hue monuments conservation centre has restored the Nam Giao festival and it is highlight of the Hue festival season many years.
Nam Giao festival in Hue reflects Le Te Giao and cultural Vietnamese in general and Hue culture in particular. Having the experience and success in the period festival, Nam Giao festival 2012 will remain one of the main festivals. Dan Nam Giao of Nguyen dynasty is a complex of structure that includes Giao Dan, Trai cung, Than tru and Than kho in the an area of 10 hectares. The central area of Dan Nam Giao is Giao Dan, towards the south, including 3 stories: the top is Vien Dan with circle, symbolizing heaven; two stories are Phuong Dan with square shape, symbolizing Ground. This is the place which has main ritual activities in Nam Giao festival.
Nam Giao architecture of Nguyen dynasty follows strictly “Tam Tai” theory as well as “Heaven is round, Ground is square”. Dan Nam Giao includes three stories with different forms and colors. Circular heaven is presented by Vien dan with blue railing. Square ground is presented by Phuong Dan with yellow railing. Heaven- ground- People are presented in relation with separation and absoluteness. Especially, the human factor is expressed very clearly and fairly equal with Heaven and gods.
