Set nearby Nha Trang Port, Vinh Luong Market offers an authentic shopping experience where fishermen sell their catch-of-the-day to the local population and seafood restaurant owners. Surrounded by numerous fishing villages, this renowned street market has the most extensive varieties of freshly-caught fish and shellfish in Nha Trang.
A 20-minute drive from Nha Trang City, Vinh Luong Market is great for experiencing the local culture as it is always bustling with residents shopping for fresh seafood, meat, vegetables, and household supplies. You can also find several stalls selling counterfeit goods, local handicrafts and trinkets at decent prices.
Don’t be surprised to see a few late-night stragglers – or early-morning rises – shuffling around the market too; several of the hawker stalls here open as early as 05:00, selling cheap street eats that make for a good breakfast fill. Must-tries include spring rolls, bun cha sua (rice vermicelli, jellyfish, and steamed sailfish fillet in fish broth), ban xeo (Vietnamese pancakes), and nem nuong (grilled fermented pork roll).
Best of all, items sold at Vinh Luong Market are much cheaper compared to the more touristy markets in Nha Trang. Bargaining is still allowed, though some vendors might get offended if you offer unreasonably low prices.
Vinh Luong Market can also get very packed, so be aware of your belongings to avoid getting pickpocketed. Faint-hearted visitors might also get squeamish at the sight of fish and meat displayed in ice trays. However, this open-air street market is a fascinating place for street photography due to its colourful backdrop of the East Sea and surrounding mountains.
