Dong Xuan market is located in the Old Quarter of Hanoi. It’s the oldest market of the capital which formerly was called Thang Long. It is a commercial, cultural and spiritual place.

The market was built in 1889 by the French beside of the Red River. It was created in the canton of Dong Xuan, from which it takes its name. The market is located next to Huyen Thien Pagoda (Hang Khoai street) and Bach Ma Temple (Hang Buom Street).

The Dong Xuan market attracts Vietnamese and foreign merchants and tourists. It is located in the Old Quarter of Hanoi, not far from the Hang Ngang, Hang Dao, Hang Bong and Hang Gai streets, specializing in the sale of souvenirs and clothing, and a short distance from the Hoan Kiem Lake. The night market of Dong Xuan was established in 2003. Cultural and folk activities are organized, including “Xam”, “ Quan ho” and “cheo”. For 12 years, folk shows have seen organized every Saturday evening.
