How to get to Phu Quoc island by boat?

Phu Quoc island is already one of the most popular holiday destination in Vietnam. With the recent completion of an international airport, the visa exemption for citizen of some countries, Phu Quoc island become one of the star attractions on Southest Asia. A popular way to get to Phu Quoc island, especially for those who travels through Vietnam and Cambodia- is by boat. There are two regular ferries from both cities in Mekong Delta: Ha Tien and Rach Gia, but it’s always difficult to find updated schedules for these ferries. Below you can find all the information you need to know about the boat to Phu Quoc island and a complete list of schedules and fares for passengers and vehicles.

There are daily ferries to and from Phu Quoc island throughout the year, the calendar is fixed in any case. There are at least four ferry companies with services from Ha Tien and Rach Gia to Phu Quoc island, but really only running are Super Dong and Thanh Thoi. The first is a fast boat and the second is a slow ferry that operates only in Ha Tien. However, there should be little confusion for travelers as all tickets for all boat companies are sold at the counter of the boat or in hotel in Phu Quoc. Ticket prices are set. Whatever your ferry company or schedule changes, make sure there is at least one boat in the morning and another in the afternoon. The only obstacle is the weather, the rough sea can cause departures cancellations

Speed boats are long and thin with seating inside on soft and comfortable chairs. The air conditioning is mounted to the maximum, and Vietnamese music is played throughout the trip. The slow ferry Ha Tien is a large steel boat with plenty of seating inside and a large deck, and there is a bar on board. Passengers of two ferries are mostly Vietnamese, but there are always a handful of foreign travelers also.

Speed boats of Ha Tien and Rach Gia arrive all at Bai Vong or Ham Ninh port on Phu Quoc island - these berries are next to each other on the east side of the island, located about 10 minutes from the main town of Duong Dong. The slow ferry from Ha Tien and arrives at the port of Da Chong, in the northeast of the island, located about 45 minutes from the town of Duong Dong.

If you travel with your own vehicle, all fast boats from Rach Gia and Ha Tien can carry several bikes, but it is best to book at least one day in advance, especially during high season (December to March). The slow ferry Ha Tien has space for 200 bikes, and dozens of cars.
